Value Delivery Architecture™ (VDA) is a strategy formation framework developed by Insightegy Consultants which assigns a central role to the firm's business idea in the process of value creation. The methodology used in VDA logically sequences its constituent components* which empower the firm's value delivery apparatus. VDA provides managers with a framework for shareholder wealth creation by aligning the firm's business model to a key growth opportunity stemming from its value environment.

VDA was born as a result of rigorous clinical research into the strategy formation practices of firms operating in different sectors with a diverse record of economic performance and at various stages of organizational development. As a result of our study, we derived the seemingly obvious but insightful conclusion that all business entities are divided between three camps of strategy formation ideology: entrepreneurial, formalistic and hybrid.

Our research shows that in entrepreneurial and formalistic ideologies, companies exhibit varying trends of growth and decline while the hybrid pattern produces consistent over-achievers and market leaders. Examination of activity models and competitive dynamics of the hybrid method has uncovered the secrets of successful strategy formulation.

The hybrid approach advocated by VDA possesses the primary features of the entrepreneurial school (see, attack, win) at the initial stages, followed by the formalistic patterns of strict business logic at the later stages. Bringing these opposing ideologies together into successful strategy solutions requires a business idea as a binding element. The business idea translates immaterial and cognitive insight stemming from the firm's value environment to the grounding underlying four critical components of its success: target geography, target customer, tailored value proposition and required organizational capabilities.

VDA allows the strategist to formulate a business concept of value creation and translate it to a series of strategic themes which are then transformed to a set of assets and required core competencies. Strategic assets and competencies form a unique activity system, which in turn becomes the backbone of a value creating strategy.

VDA has been tested on a broad range of strategy projects and has helped several underachieving firms to completely revise existing ways of doing business and dramatically improve financial performance, achieve high growth rates and build shareholder value.
